The Story Behind the Brand
14 years of manufacturing. Countless setbacks. One mission.
Adrian Bustos is a CNC machinist, design engineer, and the founder of Layer Junkies. With 14 years in manufacturing — starting from literally sweeping the floors of a machine shop — he built his career through raw talent, relentless work ethic, and a refusal to settle for less than his potential.
He's programmed everything from a desktop CNC mill to a machine the size of a house. He's earned a CAMWorks certification, designed production parts in SolidWorks, supervised two departments simultaneously, negotiated industrial contracts, and mentored machinists along the way. None of it came easy, and none of it came from a four-year degree. It came from showing up every single day and outworking everyone in the room.
After years of working for other people — getting results, getting passed over, getting back up — Adrian got a 3D printer. Then another. Then six. He was designing and printing constantly, getting friends and family hooked, modeling parts from scratch the same way he had been doing on CNC machines for over a decade. He looked at his printer one day and thought: Dothan needs one of these stores. And then, almost immediately: why wait for someone else to open it?
None of it — not the resilience, not the comeback, not Layer Junkies — happens without two things Adrian credits above everything else. His faith in God, which carried him through his lowest moments and never let him stay down for long. And his wife, Jessy Bustos — co-owner of Layer Junkies and the person who has been his backbone through every single chapter. She grounds him when he needs it, steadies the ship when things get loud, and brings a calm and genuine care to everything she touches at the shop. Jessy handles customer relations, daily operations, and the kind of steady presence that turns a vision into something real. Layer Junkies is theirs — built together, run together.
Layer Junkies isn't just a filament store. It's not just a print shop. It's a place Adrian and Jessy built for the Wiregrass — a place to Design. Create. Build.
3D printing isn't tens of thousands of dollars anymore. It's not just for big manufacturers or engineers with degrees. It's for the kid who has a crazy idea, the parent who wants to do something hands-on with their child, the local business that needs a custom part, the hobbyist who has always wanted to make something real. Adrian can teach your six-year-old how to do it.
The name says it all. 3D printing is addicting. Once you see a design come off the bed as a physical object you actually made — you're hooked. That's the feeling Adrian and Jessy want everyone in Dothan to experience.
